Meghna Gulzar's filmography runs through dense, procedural dramas — Raazi, Talvar, Chhapaak — none of which opened on spectacle, and Daayra's pairing of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran fits the same mould: two recognizable names in a story built to unfold rather than announce itself on a Friday marquee. A crime drama's opening number rarely tells the whole story anyway; the format tends to build through reviews and word of mouth more than a first-day rush.
Worth watching: a director whose past work has typically found its real audience in week two, not day one — Daayra's actual test starts after this opening number, not on it.
