Practical Magic 2 opened to $13.0M domestically on its first day, adding $6.3M from overseas markets for a $19.3M worldwide start.
Nearly three decades after the original, the sequel opens like audiences never left.
The original Practical Magic released in 1998, and Sandra Bullock returning to the role nearly three decades later is a rarer kind of sequel than the box office usually sees — most franchise follow-ups arrive within a few years of the original, not a generation later. Susanne Bier directs this round, taking over a story that built much of its long-term following through home viewing and cable reruns rather than its original theatrical run.
No budget figure is attached yet, so there's no ratio to measure Day 1 against — without a break-even bar, the number that matters most right now is how the weekend builds from here, not the size of the opening dollar figure alone.
