Karthik Subbaraj has built his career on genre mixing rather than straight drama — Jigarthanda, Petta, Mahaan all borrowed from crime and action while keeping a distinct tone of their own. Dorothy's own billed mix of action, adventure, drama and romance fits that same pattern of a director who rarely stays inside one lane, even when, as here, the opening-week numbers haven't matched the ambition.
Keep it in proportion: ₹6.78Cr lifetime after a full week is a small number for a wide theatrical release, and no budget figure is on record to say whether it's a disappointment or roughly on plan — the second week's opening weekend is what will actually clarify that.
